My Grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9

Testimony

It amazes me when I think of how God looked down in mercy and offered salvation to me. My dad’s father was an alcoholic and my mother’s parents were also heavy drinkers. With the exception of one grandmother, Christ was not a priority in the homes of my grandparents.

My story started off in much the same way, but at the age of five my life was forever changed when my dad came to know Christ as his personal savior. For several years my mother had taken us to church off and on, but without my dad’s support, our home was not a Godly home. After my dad’s conversion our home was extremely different. Instead of dad’s old buddies hanging around his garage (he was a mechanic), we had a deacon or a preacher in our living room on a regular basis. Dad plunged into the Word with a deep hunger, and the men of our church knew that when dad called with a question, it was just easier to come over to our home.

Within a few months I too asked Christ to be my Savior. Before church one morning I knelt at our couch and prayed. In the years following I often doubted what happened to me that day. I knew I wanted to go to Heaven, but I was not sure that I understood what salvation was. At the age of 20, God settled my salvation once and for all. What a blessing that we can know where we will spend eternity!

My dad felt God's call to preach shortly after he was saved. When dad was called on to minister, my family joined him, and I would serve by singing or playing the piano for the congregation. I was given the opportunity to work in children’s church, nursing homes, and wherever else we were needed.

In September of 1992, my husband, Jamie, and I were married and my flexibility in the ministry served me well. Jamie was enlisted in the Navy, and we were given the opportunity to work with young military men and women through the churches we attended in Texas, Virginia, and Florida. (God is at work in the young people of our armed services. They have a desire to serve that is refreshing.)

It has been my joy over the years to serve the Lord. It is only by His mercy that He chose me to be His child. The greatest choice I have ever made was in accepting Him as Lord and Savior of my life. He has blessed me beyond measure, and I have never regretted living a life for Him!
